Behind The Smile, TyDy4Tyler Color Run

SERVPRO's colorful team after the color run 5K. Some of our staff and their families after the color run.

On Saturday, September 15, 2018, SERVPRO of Anniston, Gadsden and Marshall County sponsored the Behind the Smile Color Run at Rainbow Middle School in Rainbow City, Alabama. This event was the second annual to honor the life of Tyler Martin who, sadly took his own life at the young age of 14. Tyler was known for his love of sports and was well-loved by his family and friends. In order to increase the awareness of teen suicide, the family decided to host this event annually in his memory. Dozens of companies, including SERVPRO Anniston, Gadsden and Marshall County sponsored this event in which all proceeds will be used to spread awareness of the risk of suicide. SERVPRO Anniston, Gadsden and Marshall County showed up not only as a sponsor but in person with 12 of our staff and family members wearing Behind the Smile t-shirts and SMILES to run and/or walk in memory of Tyler. We are proud to support local events and causes in our communities. May our interactions and connections with our customers and community members turn despair into hope for all those we meet.

Sharing and Caring at Christmas

6/1/2018 (Permalink)

A box full of Christmas gifts. A big box of presents lovingly selected and wrapped for a family in need.

Christmas is a time of giving.  A time to help those in need. We were so honored at Christmas 2017 to provide for a local family in need. Through our normal work schedule and interaction with clients, we became aware of a this family and reached out to see if there was a way we could help them by providing food and presents at Christmas.  SERVPRO Anniston, Gadsden and Marshall County was given the list of children in the family, their shoe and clothing sizes, and wish list from each child.  Our staff went to town with the shopping list and had fun picking out new clothes, shoes, toys, and stocking stuffers for this family! We even got them a gift card to the local supermarket to help them with all the fixings for their Christmas meal.  We wrapped all the presents and loaded them in SERVPRO boxes so that each child had his/her own box of Christmas presents and Christmas stockings.  It really brings the spirit of Christmas alive when you can give in this way.  At SERVPRO Anniston, Gadsden and Marshall County, we love helping out in our community and we look forward to many more opportunities to make a difference.

Giving Back

Christmas is the time of giving. It was such a blessing for us to be able to give back by sponsoring a local family in need at Christmas. We found out about a family in our service area that had no means of providing Christmas presents to their children due to financial difficulties related to escalated medical bills. We jumped at the chance to help out and Christmas shop for the children, providing them with items on their wish list, filled stockings, as well as each of them new clothes, tennis shoes, and personal toiletry items.

“It was a great opportunity for SERVPRO of Anniston, Gadsden and Marshall County to give back to our community. Shopping for one family, knowing their names and ages, made it personal”, said owner Jenny Lamey. Not only did we provide gifts for the children but also money toward a Christmas meal. We continue to pray for this family that they are able to get back on their feet in this new year.

Mold...Be Informed!

6/16/2017 (Permalink)

In this photo our CE instructor, Daniel, is teaching some of our agents and adjusters on Mold.

One of our favorite ways to connect with our clients is to host CE classes. It gives us a chance to educate our customers on topics important to them and it allows our clients to complete required CE credits for their businesses. Throughout the year we hold various CE classes on the following topics: Fire, Water, Mold, and Ethics. We at SERVPRO have been approved by the insurance industry to host these classes for agents and adjusters. We follow strict guidelines on course content, course facilitators, and attendee certification procedures in order to meet all the requirements to host these classes for our clients.

The most recent CE class we held was in June at Silver Lakes Golf Course in Gadsden, Alabama, which is part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. On a stormy rainy day in Alabama, what better topic to discuss than MOLD. We were pleased that despite the weather we had 20 agents and adjusters from all over the Anniston and Gadsden area attend the class.

Mold is a hot topic in our area because the weather conditions in Alabama are ideal for mold growth. It is something home and business owners are calling us about frequently. And certainly something that our agents and adjusters have to field questions about often.  The class objectives are:

- Understand the evolution of mold awareness

- Acknowledge mold as part of our environment

- Understand the basics of mold remediation

- Understand the effect of mold on buildings

- Recognize how mold is affecting Insurance Professionals and the Insurance Industry

Mold is a reality in our area and being informed on how to handle it is the first line of defense! "Find and remove the source" is an important tip that was repeatedly emphasized in the class.

We are pleased to be a trusted partner with our insurance clients and look forward to more opportunities to host these classes. The upcoming classes are as follows:

August 8th, 2017 - Fire

October 10th, 2017 - Water

Rain, Rain Go Away!

A large desiccant dehumidifier outside a school we dried out. Look at our desiccant going to work!

There is never a good time for it to be raining inside a building. But when it's July in Alabama, AND the building is an elementary school, AND over half the building is saturated, AND a new school year starts in just 7 days...we are really in a pickle! That's just what happened in July 2016 just weeks after we opened SERVPRO of Anniston, Gadsden and Marshall County. But with the help of our Large Loss team and other neighboring franchises, we got to work and were on the scene within an hour of getting the call needing help. An in-depth job scope and work plan was developed quickly to get the water out and dry the interior. Industrial water extractors, a desiccant dehumidifier the size of a tractor trailer, plenty of staff, and SERVPRO know-how got the job started quickly and correctly. Working around the clock for days, our employees and hundreds of pieces of equipment labored to get this elementary school cleaned up and ready for the first day of school.  What a sense of satisfaction it was to see this school opening right on time due to the hard work of our SERVPRO employees along with the faculty and staff of the school and the community!! It just goes to show that no job is too big or to small for our SERVPRO team. With over 50 years in the industry, we know just what to do in the case of a water event that causes damage to a school, business or home! We make it "Like it ever even happened"!!
